The Bigeni Project: Architectural Precision at a Luxury Hotel in Malta
Mekmar is proud to reveal our contribution to the Bigeni Project, a standout hotel development in Malta that redefines coastal sophistication. This project highlights our ability to deliver highly customized stone solutions for complex architectural shapes, proving that natural stone has no limits.
The Choice of Material: Noche Vein Cut Travertine
To achieve a look of deep, earthy elegance, the architects selected Noche Vein Cut Travertine. The linear "vein cut" provides a modern, rhythmic pattern that perfectly suits the scale of a luxury hotel façade.
- Finish: Filled & Honed. This surface was chosen to provide a smooth, matte finish that is easy to maintain while offering a high-end, contemporary feel.
- Total Volume: 400 m² of premium Noche tiles were utilized for the exterior.
Technical Innovation: Solving the "Round Form" Challenge
The most remarkable aspect of the Bigeni Project was the building's unique circular architecture. Standard flat tiles cannot seamlessly wrap a curved surface, so Mekmar’s production team engineered a custom solution:
- Custom Beveled Back Surface: We produced special-sized tiles with a beveled (angled) back. This allowed the 1.2 cm thick tiles to follow the building's round form perfectly, creating a smooth, continuous curve without visible "stair-stepping" or gaps.
- Façade Cladding Efficiency: At 1.2 cm thickness, these tiles provided the perfect balance of lightweight application and long-term durability for a Mediterranean coastal environment.
